Jefferson Street Bridge

Completed in 1987 by American Bridge, the Jefferson Street Bridge project involved the full structural, mechanical, and electrical rehabilitation of a double-leaf, rolling bascule bridge over the Des Plaines River in Joliet, Illinois, without disrupting marine traffic. Work included replacing movable leaf floor beams, stringers, bracing, deck grating, and drive machinery, while modifying concrete counterweights and approach decks. The side trusses were repaired, and a sequenced erection scheme allowed for efficient replacement of the track and tread plate system. Subcontractors handled electrical work, pier repairs, and painting.
