Completed in 2011 by American Bridge, the I-64 Main Span Girder Repair project involved retrofitting welded connections to bolted ones on two 600′ double-deck tied arches over the Ohio River, built in 1960 with T1 steel. The work, performed under traffic, included inspection, testing, and accelerated repairs after significant cracking was found. The contract, valued at $2.49M, was awarded in August with a December completion target. American Bridge Manufacturing handled accelerated steel fabrication, and the project was completed ahead of schedule, with final inspections on November 3.
