Hurricane Gulch Arch

Completed in 1921 by American Bridge, the Hurricane Gulch Arch project consisted of the construction of a 918′ (280m) deck arch railroad bridge with a 384′ (117m) arch span over the gorge. The arch was erected using the cantilever method with derrick cars. The bridge also included two 120′ (37m) deck truss spans, one 50′ (15m) plate girder span, and a 240′ (73m) viaduct. The structure rises 297′ (91m) above the gorge bottom. Hurricane Gulch is located at milepost 284 of the Alaska Railroad.
