Completed in 1978 by Mole Constructors, the Hilliard Boulevard Tunnel project involved constructing a 1,600 linear feet tunnel with a diameter of 74 inches using a 74-inch Scott Tunnel Boring Machine. The tunnel utilized a 60-inch jack pipe and was excavated through clay and shale at depths ranging from 30 feet to 90 feet. Bentonite displacement and grouting were utilized throughout the process.
