Completed in 1916 by American Bridge, the Hell Gate Bridge project consisted of the fabrication and erection of a two-hinge, four-track railroad bridge built for the New York Connecting Railroad. The structure includes 63 approach spans and a 978′ (298m) arch main span. The overall length of the bridge and its viaduct approaches is 16,900 feet (5,151m).
