Completed in 1950 by American Bridge, the Grande Anse Bridge project consisted of a design/build contract for a 386′ (118m) crossing of the Grande Anse River, including a 270′ (82m) mainspan suspension bridge. The suspension system was made up of seven bridge rope strands of 1-5/8″ (41mm) diameter. The foundation system included 72 Carnegie Beam 14″ (357mm) piles, weighing 73 pounds per foot (109kg/m). Of these, 36 were driven to 150′ (46m) in four sections, and 36 were driven to 65′ (20m) in two sections. All design was done in-house by American Bridge Engineering.
