Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge (Tappan Zee Bridge)

Completed in 2023 by American Bridge as part of Tappan Zee Constructors, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge replaces the aging Tappan Zee Bridge, spanning the Hudson River between Westchester and Rockland counties. The $3.9 billion design-build project features two parallel 2,230-foot cable-stayed structures with 1,200-foot midspans, eight traffic lanes, emergency lanes, a bike/pedestrian path, and a modern traffic monitoring system. Innovations included a lightweight steel superstructure, friction pendulum bearings, and self-climbing concrete tower forms. Large components were pre-assembled at Coeymans Yard and transported via barge, with the massive “I Lift NY” crane assisting in on-site installation. The project has boosted the economy, supporting over 640 New York businesses and creating thousands of jobs.
