George Washington Bridge Comprehensive Cable Inspection

American Bridge handled the field construction aspects of a comprehensive inspection program for main and suspender cables for the bridge. The work involved replacement of six hanger ropes on the bridge, so as to allow testing of the removed cables. The variety of locations of the rope replacements dictated a different method for each case, the engineering for which was done by American Bridge. Sections of the main cables were also unwrapped, wedged, inspected and re-wrapped. All work was undertaken without full or partial closure of the bridge with an AVD of 250,000.

Under a separate contract, AB replaced eight handrail ropes on the four main cables at the New Jersey backspan of the bridge, including replacement of the existing stanchions on this 4,720’ suspension bridge over the Hudson River.
