Completed in 2004 by American Bridge, the FPL Manatee Expansion Project involved installing a 60′ long, 40′ wide, and 50′ deep sheet pile cofferdam to construct a cast-in-place concrete intake structure. The project included erosion protection with filter fabric, 3,400 tons of lightweight aggregate, and 900 tons of rip-rap, as well as dredging 9,000 CY of material. Additional work included constructing a 18’ by 25’ by 12’ box culvert and installing 600 LF of 108” diameter sub-aqueous pipeline supported by 75 steel pipe piles.
