Completed in 1980 by Mole Constructors, the Four-Mile Treatment Plant – Contract 3 project comprised of about 2,000 linear feet of 48-inch pipe installed in a tunnel and 3,000 linear feet installed via open cut. It utilized rock & bolts support and reinforced concrete pipe in glacial moraine conditions. Employing a 97-inch Lovat Tunnel Boring Machine, the project navigated through sands, gravel, and silts at depths of 35 feet to 40 feet, below the water table. Annulus backfill grouting with molecrete was applied during the process.
