Completed in 1981 by Mole Constructors, the Four-Mile Treatment Plant – Contract 1 project involved the installation of approximately 5,000 linear feet of 60-inch pipe within a tunnel. The tunnel was excavated using a 97-inch Lovat Tunnel Boring Machine and supported with rock and bolt (R&B) reinforcement. Reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) was utilized for the piping system. The depth of the tunnel ranged from 40 feet to 50 feet below the water table.
