Fairmount Boulevard Intercommunity Relief Sewer

Completed in 1998 by Mole Constructors, the Fairmount Boulevard Intercommunity Relief Sewer project consisted of approximately 10,989 linear feet of rock tunnel in shale and 2,302 linear feet of soft ground tunnel. The tunnel was excavated using a 100-inch Lovat Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). The rock portion of the tunnel was supported using rock dowels and channel straps. The soft ground portion of the project was supported using liner plates with internal steel ribs. The final liner consisted of 60-inch reinforced concrete pipe with light weight cellular grout annulus backfill.
