Completed in 1985 by American Bridge, the Cumberland River Bridge project consisted of erecting a 1,716-foot (523m) bridge with 983 feet of steel plate girder and 733 feet of precast concrete box beam approaches. The concrete portion includes seven spans of prestressed concrete box girders.
