Corbalis to Fox Mill 54-inch Water Main

Completed in 2012 by Southland Contracting, the Corbalis to Fox Mill 54-inch Water Main Project consisted of the furnishing and installing approximately 12,000 linear feet of 54-inch watermain along with 150 linear feet of 42-inch watermain along with the associated valves, shafts, and tunnels. Approximately 8,600 linear feet of the 54-inch watermain is to be installed in tunnels which will be performed using our Robbins 88-inch Double Shield Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). This project for the Fairfax Water Authority was rebid and awarded to Southland Contracting on May 14, 2012 after original General Contractor failed to perform. Prior to installing our Robbins Machine, the former general contractor’s Lovat 99-inch Tunnel Boring Machine has to be removed from the previously excavated portion of the tunnel. The remaining waterline installation will be installed using open cut methods.
