Project involved the construction of a 2.5 mile streetcar line with 11 stops. It includes the construction of stations, construction of administrative space, installation of signaling and safety systems, laying of tracks and construction of related infrastructure.
This project will extend the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar system 2.0 miles west from the Charlotte Transportation Center to French Street and 0.5 miles east from Hawthorne/5th Street to Hawthorne/ Sunnyside Avenue. The project includes the replacement of the Hawthorne Street Bridge over Independence Boulevard (US-74), in-street running dual track, special track work at the ends of the line, traction power stations, water line, storm line, overhead catenary system, conduits, streetcar stop installation, asphalt pavement, curb and gutter, concrete pavement, traffic signals and traffic control. Work includes, 6,401 CY of undercut excavation with backfill and geotextile fabric. 300 CY of trench rock removal.
