Completed in 2010, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Redecking project involved replacing 193,000 SF of deck on the westbound suspension and cantilevered truss spans with precast, post-tensioned units during nighttime lane closures. The 2,950′ suspension bridge received lightweight concrete composite deck units, while the 1,720′ cantilevered truss bridge got precast concrete slabs. American Bridge manufactured the deck units and steel components near the site. Other work included replacing steel traffic barriers, four expansion dams, installing aerodynamic stabilization, acoustic sensors, and painting the through truss. The project also included repairs to a ferry terminal. Self-performed work involved bridge jacking, steel railing replacement, joint rehabilitation, concrete placement, structural repairs, and traffic management.
