Completed in 2010 by American Bridge, the Chesapeake Bay (William Preston Lane) Bridge Redecking Fab project consisted of removing and replacing 193,000 SF of deck on the westbound suspension and cantilevered truss spans using precast, post-tensioned units during nighttime closures. The suspension bridge received lightweight composite units with steel stringers and diaphragms; the cantilevered truss spans used precast slabs with concrete barriers. American Bridge fabricated deck units near the site and 900 tons of steel components at its Coraopolis shops. Work also included traffic barrier replacement, expansion dam upgrades, aerodynamic winglet installation, cable sensor monitoring, ferry terminal repairs, painting, and structural rehabilitation.
