Completed in 2012, the Caminada Bay Bridge Project was a major roadway and bridge project that consisted of the replacement of the old Caminada Bay Bridge on La. 1 to Grand Isle with a new concrete girder span bridge. The new bridge has two lanes of traffic, two 8-foot shoulders and is elevated 48 feet, approximately 30 feet higher than the old bridge, to allow larger boats to pass. Construction included 2,775 cubic yards of embankment, road base with asphalt, all utilities, storm sewer, replace existing low-level bridge (3,900 linear feet), concrete piling, CIP concrete, mass grading with erosion control measures, and demo of existing bridge after completion.
