Completed in 1952 by American Bridge, the Cairo Railroad Bridge project replaced the Illinois Central Railroad bridge in Cairo, Illinois. It involved swapping two 520′ and seven 400′ truss spans with two 520′, four 400′, and six 200′ spans, using 9,204 tons of new steel versus 6,800 tons of old.
