Completed in 1973 by American Bridge, the New Melones Dam project involved fabricating and erecting 2,567 L.F. of 23’-diameter tunnel liner (5,300 tons) with 1 1/8” plate thickness. It included a tee, three bifurcations, and 600’ of 17’-diameter penstocks with 7/8” to 1 7/8” wall thickness. Sections, weighing 200 tons each, were assembled, moved into the tunnel, and welded in place.
