C and D Canal Bridge

Completed in 1949 by American Bridge, the C&D Canal Bridge spans 4,106′ (1,251m) with 35 spans, including a 539′ tied arch main span with a 93′ vertical rise. Weighing 4,956 tons, the structure was erected with minimal falsework to ensure safe navigation. Engineers used a falsework bent on the south side and a toggle bent on the north pier. American Bridge also provided the concrete roadway, sidewalk, stairs, and lighting.
