Briar Creek Relief Sewer Tunnel Phase 2

Completed in 2014 by Southland Contracting, the Briar Creek Relief Sewer Phase II Project consisted of the construction of approximately 3.5 miles of finished internal diameter between 8.5 feet and 10.5 feet of 16.5 foot inside diameter (ID) tunnel excavated by a roadheader and drill and blast methods between 30 to 700 feet below ground. Extensive dewatering and tunnel reinforcement for heavy groundwater inflows and unstable ground along the tunnel alignment. This project also included reinforced concrete tunnel lining, buried portal structures, large diameter pipe installations, construction via a 40 foot diameter by 120 foot deep temporary shaft.
