Completed in 1978 by Mole Constructors, the Black River Tunnel project entailed roughly 13,000 linear feet of tunnel, utilizing a 102-inch Lovat TBM and a 110-inch Scott Spider. The tunnel, ranging from 102 to 110 inches, was unlined and unsupported. Excavation was carried out through cooper marl at depths of 100 feet to 110 feet.
