Completed in 1985 by American Bridge, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge Maintenance Travelers project involved the design, fabrication, and installation of three maintenance travelers. Each 130′ x 8’8″ deck truss unit is suspended by gimbal rod assemblies and trolley units, powered by a 75 kW diesel generator. Erection was done from fixed platforms using a 20-kip hoist from barges, with each traveler featuring a self-propelled scissor lift.
