Completed in 2003 by American Bridge, the Bayonne Bridge Strengthening project added 60 longitudinal girders to the 1,675-foot main span. The girders, made of Grade 70 steel, were fabricated by American Bridge Manufacturing and Michelman Steel. Originally built by American Bridge in 1931, it was once the world’s longest arch bridge and remains the second longest.
