Bayonne Bridge

Completed in 1931 by American Bridge, the Bayonne Bridge spans 5,780’ over the Kill Van Kull, featuring a 1,675’ steel through-arch main span. Designed by Othmar Ammann, it was the world’s longest arch bridge until 1977. Erected using temporary bent falsework and kingpost assist, the arch rises 266’ and contains 16,667 tons of steel. The full 26,000-ton structure was completed in 18 months with 287,000 man-hours.
