Under contract with joint venture Kiewit/Tully, American Bridge fabricated this 300’ (91.5m) by 85’ (26m) by 52.5’ (16m) high, four-lane, swing-span through truss, plus two approach girder spans and 20,000SF of steel grid deck. The swing-span truss contained 1,096 tons of steel with a weight of 2,192,000 pounds, and the approach girder spans contained 463 tons of steel with a weight of 926,000 pounds. This contract involved the complete replacement of the swing span and both girder approach spans over the Harlem River; the scope of work included fabrication of the 300’ swing span truss bridge, steel roadway barrier and grid decking, approach span girders and diaphragms and operator’s house.
