The Tampa District of American Bridge (AB) has been awarded a contract of $ 15,186,000 to perform the marine construction part of the Nassau Harbor Project in Nassau, Bahamas. AB’s scope includes the installation of approximately 4,300 wall feet of sheetpile bulkhead with tieback system and concrete encapsulation, which will form a containment for dredged materials and create an expansion to the existing Arawak Cay Port facility. The scope also includes construction of three large mooring dolphins, earthworks and scour protection.
AB will be a subcontractor to Boskalis International BV of the Netherlands, who was awarded the main contract for approximately $44 million, which includes 1.5 million cy of dredging. Bahamas Marine Construction will be AB’s partner and will be performing earthworks, ready mix supply and other work items. The overall purpose of the project is to extend and widen the channel and upgrade Nassau Harbor to receive the next generation of large cruise ships, including the “Genesis” Class vessels. The Owner is the Bahamas Ministry of Works and Transport. American Bridge’s work will start June 1st and the project has an overall duration of approximately 10 months.
American Bridge has been a leading builder of complex structures and marine projects since its founding in 1900. The company’s current marine projects include the replacement of a cruise ship pier in Puerto Maya, Cozumel, Mexico; and the Bakers Bay Marina project in Abaco, Bahamas.
