LST 285

Built by American Bridge Company at the Ambridge Manufacturing Plant in Ambridge, PA. Launched October 24, 1943. Commissioned USS LST-285 on December 13, 1943. During World War II USS LST-285 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Participated in two campaigns including the Invasion of Normandy (June 6 to 25, 1944) and Invasion of Southern France (August 15 to September 25, 1944). USS LST-285 earned two battle stars for World War II service. Decommissioned on June 27, 1947. Final Disposition, sold for scrapping on March 26, 1948, to Kaiser Co., Inc., Seattle, WA.
